The Sneaker Revolution spurred the development of Outdoor shoes. For years shoes for specific outdoor uses were made – Hiking shoes for example. These shoes, really Hiking Boots, were used by people who actually went hiking in the outdoors. But the Sneaker Revolution created a demand for sneakers that could be used in the outdoors – Trail Running Shoes, Adventure Shoes, and Water Shoes. Often times these shoes were designed with running shoe technologies and silhouettes modified for outdoor uses. Using technology to make Outdoor Shoes more comfortable, allowed people to wear these shoes all the time for every occasion.

As fashion began to favor the rugged, outdoor look, casual shoes reflected these trends. Sneakers started to change their colors and reflect the influence of outdoors look. Manufacturers began to introduce new materials – GoreTex uppers, Vibram outsoles. Outdoor shoes were being offered by the athletic shoe companies, the hiking shoe companies, and the casual shoe companies. Outdoor footwear became an important segment of the footwear market.
